Deborah Meldrum Attention Software announces release of Attention!® AM version 2.0 Colorado Springs, CO – August 23, 2005 – Attention Software announced today the release of version 2.0 of the Attention! Alarm Manager (AM). Attention! AM is a web-based software application that ties together the configuration, filtering and reporting of status information from a myriad number of devices and applications. Attention! AM consolidates alarm messages, making that data available through a browser-accessible management interface. Common sources of Attention! AM alarm data include nurse call stations, telecommunications equipment, security systems and the output generated by system and network management products. Server/Agent Architecture Attention! AM divides the work of alarm management between a central, web-accessible server, and distributed Collector Agents. Users access the Attention! AM server to configure alarms for monitored devices and applications, as well as to view reports on prior alarm activity. Collector Agents are software modules that speak the language of the alarm source, and transmit alarm data, in real-time, to the Attention! AM server for processing. When alarm conditions are detected, designated personnel are notified immediately via the integral interface to the Attention! Notification System (NS). "Our primary goal with Attention! AM was to separate the management of alarms from the collection of alarm data," said Kelly Oglesby, Vice President of Engineering for Attention Software. "Many of the devices we interface to will be outputting status information from a serial communication port in the back room of a hospital, or in the telecommunications center for a large campus of buildings. We didn't want to force our users to be physically located at the data source when creating new alarms or reporting on past alarm activity. By providing very simple agent software to collect and forward data, and concentrating all management functions on a central web server, the user interface for Attention! AM will always be the closest browser." Legacy Support Attention! AM Collector Agents are designed to interface to all sources of alarm data, with special attention to those devices and software products that do not adhere to management protocols such as SNMP. By tailoring the Collector Agents to read and forward status information from devices with no embedded management capabilities, Attention! AM provides a comprehensive alarm management umbrella for legacy devices and software applications that are often central to an organization's day to day operations. "Attention! AM is a management platform that monitors alarm activity from many devices that were virtually unmanageable in the past," said Bob Lueth, President of Attention Software. "If you have a device with an embedded SNMP MIB, there are dozens of products to choose from that will provide a reasonable level of monitoring and alarm detection. But when the data you really care about is a stream of ascii characters coming out a serial line, or a comma-delimited message buried in a log file, finding out in real-time about critical alarm conditions is a bit more difficult.
