Alarms for Delimited Fields Many system and network management products output status information to log files and script procedures, with fields separated by delimiters such as commas, semicolons or tab characters. This data often sits for days, or even weeks, before people find time to review the information. There is no worse feeling for a data center manager than to find out warning messages related to a network outage were recorded in a log file hours before the interruption in service actually occurred. Attention! AM alarms can be defined for virtually any source of delimited input. In those situations where portions of the data are irrelevant to determining the severity of the event, the Attention! AM user can select, or ignore data, on a field by field basis. Each selected field is assigned a data type of string, number or date. Tests are then created using the appropriate relational operators, comparing data sent from the application with predefined values. Attention! Alarm Manager Software can serve as the central collection point for status information output by software applications throughout the enterprise. |
